--for whom the bell tolls--

i met josh from Utility through a paint job
i did on his panhead and through
the skateboard world
we had some mutual friends as well.
josh has also has helped
mike davis with the bornfree show, including building that
insane panhead they gave away
last year. he seems to be one of
people for better or for worse
that always has something going on
inside his head. A do-er if you
will. the name Utility
has always been one of the
bigger names in skateboarding
as far as skate shops go.
When Vans approached him to do a limited
run shoe for his shop he
contacted me to see if i wanted to be
involved. It was what they
call in the medical profession a
"no brainer". I was in, josh
let me have a lot of freedom in the
design of the shoe. He arranged
getting the -guardian bell- made along
with other various"power moves"
including almost killing himself
on a frontside bluntslide on the
metal curb inside my shop.
We made this little video,movie,film?
with michael schmidt to show a little bit of the shoe.
I think they come out in the beginning of april.
Every pair comes with the little gifted bell that wards off evil spirits.

Make his fight on the hill in the early day
Constant chill deep inside
Shouting gun, on they run through the endless gray
On they fight, for they are right, yes, but who's to say?
For a hill, men would kill. Why? They do not know
Stiffend wounds test their pride
Men of five, still alive through the raging glow
Gone insane from the pain that they surely know

For whom the bell tolls
Time marches on
For whom the bell tolls

Take a look to the sky just before you die
It's the last time you will
Blackened roar, massive roar, fills the crumbling sky
Shattered goal fills his soul with a ruthless cry
Stranger now are his eyes to this mystery
He hears the silence so loud
Crack of dawn, all is gone except the will to be
Now they see what will be, blinded eyes to see

For whom the bell tolls
Time marches on
For whom the bell tolls

  5. I still have my Mountain editions that came with the grips. I wore the soul out so I had them re-soled with a crepe wedge soul at my local cobbler. I think I'm due for some new kicks.

  9. handwritten notes and little extra custom do-dads, pure genious in this time of massproducing soulless shit. hold on, not talking about the shoes now i dont know anything about that, keep pantalones on. i like vans, soles wear out a little fast but thats ok, best and most comfy skateshoes out there. just saying max makes buying more fun.

  18. In July 1995, the company closed its Orange plant, firing nearly all of the 1,000 workers there. Restructuring and write-off charges from the plant closing created most of the company's $37 million loss on its $88 million in 1995 revenues. The Vista plant continued operations, but most of Vans' production was now contracted through a dozen or so factories in South Korea...
