Used to frequent Vern's in '70. A tall, muscular patch holder with horn rimmed glasses was usually there. An outspoken and personable redhead with couple of missing fingers handled the counter. It was next to a bar, and the machine shop was across the street. I relocated from Hayward (a few blocks from Arlen Ness) to Santa Cruz that December.
