gonz.. ashby. berk 1998

in the east bay, ashby st in berkeley
is one of those streets you always seem
to get stuck on. there is red light that
is super slow when going up Ashby and trying
to cross telegraph. i would always get stuck
in traffic across from this house(bellow pic)
and would always stare at the ledge going down
the stairs wondering if anyone could ever grind
it....
a little while later in life my friend greg
moved into that house with the guys from -green
day-. One day i was out with m. gonzales and lance
dawes and we were looking for spots to skate. i told
em " i know where with this ledge down these steps are,
but it's kinda death."
mark is the most fearless person i know.and looking
at the ledge he instantly wanted to try it.
the weirdest part of the whole deal was knocking on
the door... and asking greg and the -green day- guys
if mark could skate the front of their house.
of course the answer was yes.
after a few cat like bails down the steps mark
pulled it and made it look to easy. to me the photo
always made it look way easier than the risk of the
grind.

  4. Funny thing, I interviewed Green Day, with Dana Perkins, in the basement of that house a few months before the photo was taken. She started Slap with me and was Dudley Perkins great grand-daughter.
